This technology is a device that uses electrical activity to facilitate the wound healing process while protecting the wound. The bandage is made of an electroactive material (pictured above) that is stimulated by the heat of the body and the pressure of cell growth, thus no external power source is required.
Approximately 7.5 million people in the United States have trouble using their voices. Disorders of the voice involve problems with pitch, loudness, and quality. This can occur if the nerves controlling the larynx are impaired because of an accident, a surgical procedure, a viral infection, or cancer.
The problem
Epitech addresses the problem of detecting non-convulsive (no muscle contraction) epileptic generalized seizures, which is a neglected and unutilized market segment. Approximately 1,650,000 people have generalized epilepsy in the U.S. Absence epilepsy is used as representative for non-convulsive seizures, as all absence seizures are characterized by subtle or no movements.
In the U.S.
Body tissues have electrical properties that make them amenable to evaluation using electrical impedance techniques. However, electrical current spreads in all directions in 3D volumes and hence is difficult to target a single organ or region. 'Focused Impedance method (FIM)’ is an innovation of the author’
The World Health Organization (WHO) has been waging a crusade against the alarming menace of unsafe injections. In 2002, WHO reported up to 70% of injections being given with reused syringes in the developing world, causing 1.3 million deaths, loss of 26 million years of life worldwide and estimated increased medical costs of $1 billion alone in USA annually.
The Challenge: X-ray CT Medical Imaging has proven to be a very useful technique for observation of physical details inside of the human body. Unfortunately for young children, the Brenner Team of researchers at Columbia University has shown that the X-rays themselves can be dangerous.
Iron is a critical mineral for motor and cognitive development; a deficiency can lead to anemia, which can trigger other illnesses. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports 30% of the global population as anemic with the majority being children and pregnant women. Furthermore, 40% of Americans are vitamin B12 deficient. Such deficiencies emerge rapidly and affect normal body function.
Longer life expectancy in conjunction with improved knowledge of cancers has resulted in increased demands for core needle biopsies. Additionally, cancer diagnosis typically occurs earlier and hence biopsy specimens are required from smaller tissue masses.
Image guidance using ultrasound imaging is frequently used for locating the increased number of smaller suspected tumours. However,
