The Take Cover explores the vulnerability of humans and the built environment and their need to withstand the impacts of natural disasters due to climate change. The purpose of our patented invention is to provide body conforming flotation padding protection to be used during disasters such as hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes, earthquakes, and flooding. Just as concerning as the destruction to infrastructure and property are the social realities of inequity and patterns of vulnerability of particular population groups within the U.S, and abroad regarding their children, the elderly, the poor, and natural resource dependent communities. The amazing simplicity of the Take Cover is that it deploys from a simple padded square to a T-shaped configuration providing almost complete body coverage. The patented design is only composed of four components: neoprene material, flotation padding, web straps and velcro. The Take Cover is approximately 4 1/2' feet by 2' feet with a depth of 4 inches only weighing 4lbs which can be easily handled by any age group during a natural disaster. The one myth that you often hear is that people refuse to evacuate. In most cases the reason is purely economic, seniors and children with no means or way to go. Regardless of what country, city or village this is a reality for many.
