TOTALLY Solar Electric Powered Hospital Boat

Even scientists, engineers, designers and technophiles fail to recognize the low horsepower required to move a boat at navigable speeds. Hundreds of horsepower are not required for a 12,000 pound, forty foot boat such as the MOG Solar Electric Boat.

An acceptable displacement hull speed of 8 miles per hour requires about 14 horsepower. Energy from the solar array into the battery banks for the electric motors along with new high power and density lead cobalt batteries, which are far less expensive than lithium based batteries and are totally recycled, make it eco manageable.

The design of the totally solar electric yacht, with two inboard or outboard 10 hp motors, seems to be a simple design but that would be a very deceptive conclusion. The boat is designed around the solar roof, with an ultra shallow 18 inch draft yet handles well at slow speeds with a low windage, having an 8 foot air draft.

All electricity for drive and appliances comes from the solar array atop the boat and can be augmented, if desired, with the addition of an Alkaline Fuel Cell as used by NASA space flights. A new methodology has been patented for a more economical and produceable fuel cell that runs on ammonia cracked into hydrogen on board the boat. The fuel cell is easier to stop, start and cooler to run than PEM type fuel cells.

Ammonia, the second most common chemical produced on earth, is cheap and each nitrogen carries three hydrogens. The ammonia cracker patent covers the on board device and its relation to the fuel cell. The batteries, cracker and fuel cell are products from Apollo Energy Systems (AES), an investment opportunity in which MOG participates.

The electric motors are of high commercial efficiency, eCycle, Solid Slot tm, brushless motors fed by 24 volts DC through an 'in motor' commutator. The sets of advanced test motors, each weigh just over 12 pounds, producing 10 hp through Navitas NPS600 motor controllers. eCycle is also an investment opportunity in which Mog participates.

Waste is processed by a Sun Mar composting commode and utilizes a MOG proprietary evaporation unit for excess liquid effluent.

Air conditioning, refrigeration, microwave, communications, lighting and drive systems are all powered by solar energy. The drive system is both mechanical and remotely controlled. The remote control can function off board the boat from 1/4 mile away.

Water makers and purifiers are being tested with new types becoming smaller and more electrically efficient. The roof also provides catchment areas for rainwater that is diverted into separate tankage for future purification.

The boat can be used to provide humanitarian relief in shallow waters and can be easily beached and left aground (sits level) as a generating station. The boat can be an operating room, clinic, school or a private home anywhere (a common trucking permit is required for over road transport).

This totally solar electric boat has cruised hundreds of miles in east coast salt waters from Maryland to Florida.

Nearly 80% of the world's population is within 100 kilometers of maritime waters. Self power generating homes, small business, and clinics are needed by an environmentally aware population for daily living or during a crisis. The MOG Totally Electric Powered Solar (TEPS) boat can perform that task on the water or set on land, being fully transportable by highway also.
These shallow water self generating powered boats are able to move at displacement hull speed, furnish adequate amounts of fresh made water, while allowing access to abundant food from air, land and water.

No Totally Electric Powered Solar boat is currently in production that can support two full time live aboard people to include fresh water, waste composting, all energy generation, heating, cooling, drive and communications as does the MOG in the United States of America.
