Zeolites and Metakaolin are part of the ceramic materials. These structures are metal oxides, when using zeolite modified with combination with Metakaolin that is modified, for leather tanning you choose for a heavy metal free and chrome free metal tannage.

Z-TANEW. Free of chromium, aldehydes, and heavy metals, protecting the environment and providing consistently high quality.

It is a zeolite and metakaolin with a combination of alumina, silicon sand, and oxygen, of the modified clinoptiloite-heulandite type. The three materials form a three-dimensional network structure with a cation exchange capacity of 1.13 meq/g. It serves as an eco-tanning product with the goal of conserving the environment by achieving white, non-oxidizable leathers with a shrinkage temperature of 80-85°C. The resulting leather is highly biodegradable.

  • Complete structure
  • Ph 3
  • Disperses well in tanning liquors
  • Has collagen-tanning activity
  • Use of formic acid for tanning with Z-TANEW.
  • It is micronized to 350 mesh, which helps the Z-TANEW structure disperse into smaller particles, ensuring proper distribution, so the tanning agent begins to penetrate the hides and collagen structure.
  • Sodium bicarbonate activates the zeolite and initiates its uptake and distribution. As its pH increases, its interaction with collagen begins to increase.
  • Hydrogen bonds with the hydroxyl, amine, and acid groups of collagen. Secondly, the zeolite particles also begin to react with each other to form a network.
  • It gradually covers the collagen fibers with a fixed and stable zeolite network, which is negatively charged.
  • It combines a functional tanning structure with alumina penetration, resulting in a lightweight leather with excellent quality.
  • This leads to a more anionic nature of zeolite-tanned collagen, giving a pH below 4, similar to vegetable tanning.

Environment

  • Less wastewater pollution
  • Better sulfate ratios
  • Waste does not contain chromium and can be easily reused

Safety & Health

  • Free of chromium, aldehydes, and heavy metals
  • No risk of toxic substance formation (e.g., Chromium VI)
  • Adapts to market trends, rules, and regulations

Performance

  • Consistently high-quality leather
  • The whiteness of the base material enables intense colors and white leathers
  • Lightfastness and heat resistance

Process

  • Plug & Play
  • Robust tanning system
  • Optimized processes

Z-TANEW. Patent pending by Hector Bazan.

Our work in developing this formula and final product is to support technological and environmental development, as we produce a chromium-free, lighter, and exceptionally high-quality leather for the automotive and aerospace industries. We have our own zeolite and kaolin deposits, produced by intense volcanism in the Chihuahua region of rhyolitic tuffs, in the so-called Silver Belt.
