CabiBUS Sustainable Mobility

Numerous studies indicate that the potential of autonomous vehicles (AVs) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce traffic congestion, and increase mobility access can only be fully realized through fleets of electric vehicles being used for shared rides. This has the potential for transforming the public transport industry, as well as how transportation functions in urban and rural contexts.

But new studies also show that "sharing anxiety," risk of infection and loss of privacy when sharing rides with strangers in a vehicle without a driver or attendant, can severely limit the willingness to use the services.

I saw this upcoming problem 10 years ago, found a solution and applied for a patent: “Because each passenger has their own separate space in the vehicle, the risk of being exposed to infection, theft or violence from other passengers is eliminated and there are good conditions for undisturbed work, which makes the journey time more efficient.”

The patent covers separate and also exchangeable cabins, adding the possibility to use the same vehicles for last miles parcel distribution, especially on evenings and weekends when there is less demand for passenger travels, and most people are at home and can receive their e-commerce parcels.

This greatly improves the vehicle economy and makes it possible to offer the lowest prices for both people and parcel transportation. Using the same vehicles for both services also reduce the number of vehicles and batteries that needs to be manufactured so it will save on the limited material and energy resources.

I have built a cabin prototype that shows that two persons travelling together can share one cabin if they want, reducing the travel cost with 50%. With 6 cabins, three on each side, the total capacity is then 12 passengers.

The CabiBUS will also have a rear cabin that can be booked for wheelchair passenger, large baggage or a baby stroller.

Safety: All around airbags in each cabin will provide a much higher passenger safety in case of an accident than in open interior Robotaxi, buses and trams.

CabiBUS will have a range to cover door-to-door commuting in, and 100 km around, each city, so it has a real potential to offer such an attractive and sustainable mobility service so that most car user will change their behaviour and use it for the daily trips.

That will result in the largest and fastest reduction of CO2-eq in all transportation.

CabiBUS alone will contribute to a large share of the Global Goal target 11.2 AFFORDABLE AND SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT SYSTEMS.

The solution is ready for licensing to vehicle manufacturers, but the plan is also to have a working prototype within a year from the first financing.

Level 4 autonomous driving, electric driveline, batteries and all other vehicle technology will be available from Tier 1 suppliers so production will be possible within 3-4 years.
