The MakerLisp COR24 microprocessor is a CPU architecture and implementation leveraging the unique performance benefits of low-cost FPGAs. This processor is a hedge against the rising costs and unpredictable availability of mass produced custom semiconductor microprocessor and micro-controller products. It is flexible enough that it can be implemented on a large number of FPGA products from many vendors, and is well suited to a particular "hole" in the design space that avoids the inevitable up-scaling of system costs and complexity as industry consolidation limits customer choice and forces designers to convert their products to adapt to more generic "standard," but ultimately less efficient, platforms.
