This information and video overview of the TEPStm MOG Canal Boat describes a 35 year working solar vessel that is privately owned and precisely matches the four words above. We seek to have designers, engineers, corporations, agencies, philanthropists and citizens be aware that such a craft exists and we are ready to help create a furtherance of its design and application.
The MOG is a boat for nearshore waters of the United States of America and similar applications on nearshore waters in other countries. Living, teaching, clinics, research and freight are some of the applications that can serve quite well without a requirement for speeds above 6 knots for extended periods. The MOG has recorded speeds of nearly 11 miles per hour with favorable wind and tide/flow. The boat employs a 3 -5 kw solar electric roof array on a 40 foot boat with 11 foot beam, 18 inch draft and weight of 12 to 14,000 pounds.
A water heater and stove/oven ran on propane and are now comparison items against roof top solar water heating/storage and microwave/induction cooking. Data is collected for the purpose of refining the former lifestyle away from fossil use and towards pure solar electric.
The uniqueness of the solar boat is in its roof to draft relationship which allows the functionality of an extreme shallows boat that can access intracoastal food growth and marine farming in closed lake areas as well as in salt water bays, estuaries and tidal rivers. Unique also, is the trimming down of electric power use, better energy storage per dollar and zero cost of fossil fuels.
