In the present day loss of a ship or serious damage to it, meaning loss of days at sea, is becoming increasingly unacceptable. The idea presented is to decrease damage from a collision or sinking of the ship after a major malfunction. Since a major component is already available (ship launching bag) implementation would be very straight forward. The core of the idea is to have multiple deflated ship launching bags contained in a flexible container, possibly a Kevlar/Twaron bag in multiple units around the side of the ship. in case of an emergency these can be rapidly inflated to dampen the effect of a collision with another vessel. The unit could also be inflated if for some reason stability of the ship is at risk which could result in the loss of the ship. The unit could be fully automated or manual operated.
