Project Title:
S-Band(Face Shields)
Problem Statement:
There is also a shortage of medical facilities in Lagos State and Nigeria at large to manage the Covid-19 pandemic. This leaves most health practitioners and the general public exposed to the spreading coronavirus. The United States has responded to this by encouraging 3d printing of some medical parts like ventilator valves, N95 masks and the likes. We have therefore started production of local but efficient alternatives to curb the spread of the virus.
We propose the local production of face shields that could be used by our health workers and the general public. These face shields reduce the chances of contracting the virus by:
Acting as a barrier from the virus spreading from potentially infected persons when they cough or sneeze, stopping people from repeatedly touching their faces Keeping health practitioners and first-responders safe when helping patients.
Our S-Band Face Shields are made of two simple materials:
An Elastic Cloth Band and the protective Clear PVC Shield. We believe that even after the pandemic clears, people will be more health conscious and will still require some protective wear against contacting the virus. To scale, S-Band face shields are simple, light weight, easy to wear and will be available for the general public including workers of all kinds, kids, etc and will remain of value in our everyday life.
Solution:
We at Dunamis-Cognitio propose the local production of face shields that could be used by our health workers and the general public. These face shields reduce the chances of contracting the virus by: Acting as a barrier from the virus spreading from potentially infected persons when they cough or sneeze. Stopping people from repeatedly touching their faces Keeping health practitioners and first-responders safe when helping patients
Potential Impact:
When worn with a face mask, our face shields reduce the risk of contracting the virus. This will increase our chances of slowing down the spread hence having a chance to attend to the many patients in need of vital care.
Target Users:
Health Practitioners General Public including Children in Nigeria. We are currently producing Face Shields in Nigeria to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. There is a global shortage in the production of these face shields due to the manufacturing ansd supply chain challenges.
What we have done:
We have produced 1000 S-Band(face shields) to be supplied to The Nigerian Institute of Medical Research(NIMR) in Lagos State Nigeria which currently has the highest count of COV1D-19 cases in the country.
When we started:
We started working on the project prototype last two weeks(March 26th). During that week we completed production of our first 1000 face shields.
