According to the report of the World Federation of Deafblind (WFDB) around 1.56 million people are deafblind which is 0.2 % of the total human population and 2 out of every 100th person in the world is suffering from “Milder forms of Deafblindness.” For such visual and hearing impairment, it is more difficult for a person to communicate than any other disabled. They need a third person as a mediator to interact or any form of touch or feel of that person. The idea of VIBE is more about making them independent communicators without any physical contact or third person involvement.

The existing technologies or braille only limits the impaired person to perform certain activities in confined space, using a specific instrument or need some third person involvement. Some products like Tacti watch and Sarabec limits to alarm or alert the user and do not give them the ability to Interact. VIBE on the other hand is much handier and portable and combines the technique of braille, technology of speech recognition & vibration, making it much of the 2-way communicating device.

VIBE not only constraints its use to deafblind people but any person suffering from deafness, blindness, or dumbness can use this device. This device simplifies communication for such disabled people with their family members, friends, teachers, and doctors who have regular interaction with such people.

A larger part of the human population is carrying one or other forms of disabilities like blindness, deaf & dumb, Vibe provides such a group of people to interact with other group of people and create a communicating pathway.

VIBE works similar to most of the smartwatches except VIBE has 6 mild vibrating pads placed at a specific distance apart in basic braille pattern of 3 x 2 array. VIBE takes input as text from other connected devices or uses the Speech to Text (STT) Technology and convert words into a group of letters, those letters are then converted into braille pattern and vibrators are activated in the same pattern. The user uses his sense of touch and recognizes the braille pattern of that letter, consequently forming a word by recognizing the sequence of patterns. Specific delays and Vibration intensity helps recognize the different pattern for word.

VIBE also contains the buttons placed in the same braille pattern giving the user capability to input letters and words, which will be pronounced by the inbuilt voice, same as Siri or Alexa. Other people can use their mobile phone to connect with VIBE using a simple app and send text messages which will be converted and transmitted in the form of vibration.
Hardware: Same as most smartwatches with 6 vibration pads and braille patterned switches, Long duration battery since consumption is higher due to vibration.

Firmware: IoT, STT to TTS Conversion and vice a versa, braille interpretation.
VIBE can be built at half of the price of highly featured smartwatches since it does not include expensive sensors, costly parts, or advanced Software.

My designs are mostly focused on people who need special attention and care relative to normal people and how my design can bridge gaps between those specially-abled and abled ones. I am also inspired by scientists working hard to develop new technologies for such a group in which human prosthetics is one of the fastest-growing sectors.
My designs seek future technologies that will solve the problem of a group of people and others connected with them.
