Every year, there are about 1.3 million road traffic fatalities, more than 50% of them pedestrians and vulnerable road users in an urban environment. Global efforts to reduce the number of pedestrians’ fatalities are struggling to achieve their goals. A major contributor to this problem is the global urbanization trend, whereby 2050, 65% of the world population will live in cities.

Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are being used today in many new vehicles however, their performance in vulnerable road users’ detection is limited. ADAS sensors, such as camera, RADAR, and LiDAR, are limited in obscured and low visibility scenarios, such as rain, fog, night, etc. and typically designed to detect objects on the roads and not on the sidewalks. Furthermore, ADAS are able to alert the driver and not vulnerable road users.

A.D Knight is solving the problem of understanding and predicting where people are for pedestrians and vulnerable road users’ safety.

A.D Knight’s solution generates alerts by leveraging cities’ infrastructure, e.g. digital signs, traffic lights, and outdoor lighting.

Furthermore, alerts can be sent to the most used apps for mobile phones and infotainment systems such as Waze, Google maps, Facebook, et. By doing so, A.D Knight allows municipalities to prevent accidents by generating safety alerts not only to vehicles but to pedestrians, cyclists, and scooterists. Furthermore, aggregated safety data can be used by various stakeholders such as insurers, automotive companies, transportation providers, etc.

A.D Knight’s technology detects vehicles, pedestrians, and micro-mobility platforms with connected devices, e.g. WiFi, Bluetooth, and Cellular, without any hardware and/or software changes to the detected devices, while preserving people’s privacy. The technology allows a real-time, passive sub-meter location accuracy of any wireless devices based on A.D Knight’s radio-location technology. Furthermore, A.D Knight’s proprietary technology allows classification of the devices’ users, e.g. vehicle driver, vehicle occupant, pedestrian, cyclists, a scooter rider, etc. based on the passively received signals.

A.D Knight’s sensor can be mounted on cities’ infrastructure, e.g. light poles, traffic lights, and bus shelters. A.D Knight has developed a technique for sending alerts to most used apps in low latency, below 100ms, based on WiFi and Bluetooth protocols. The sensor detection capabilities are 100m detection radius and 360deg coverage. The sensor has low power consumption, low computational power, and requires low bandwidth for sending aggregated anonymized data only.
