The basic objective is to increase profitability of crop production, improve product quality, and protect the environment. The inability to obtain soil characteristics rapidly and inexpensively remains one of the biggest limitations of precision agriculture. This sensor is based on electrical conductivity and electrochemical measurement concepts.

The developed on-the-go system has estimated total low cost less than $300 compared to similar kinds of systems. In addition the system can use any individual pH unit, just by connecting the electrode into the holder and the rest of unit into the black box. With an external GPS unit, the system can be used for mapping pH values within one field using any sampling standard method.
