ISCAD (Intelligent Stator Cage Drive) is an electric traction drive with:

- 0% rare earths,
- 25% higher driving range and
- 100% safety through 48V technology.

THE PROBLEM:
Conventional electrical machines do face the problem that due to their fixed windings the number of pole pairs cannot be changed. Electrical machines are thus low-loss energy converters only for an optimized operating point. Apart from that point, the efficiencies of conventional electric drives are decreasing enormously.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
In the ISCAD system, instead of copper windings, aluminum bars are used in the stator. Every single bar is supplied by a dedicated power electronics unit. Compared to the fixed copper windings of conventional machines, the ISCAD system thus offers the possibility of varying the number of poles during operation. Like this, ISCAD creates the first electrical gearbox which can permanently adapt to the load profile and thus make better use of the battery capacity.

THE BENEFITS OF ISCAD:
Therefore, with the same size of battery the driving range can be increased by 25%. Optionally, the battery of an EV could be reduced by 25% while maintaining the same driving range. The battery of a Tesla Model S costs about 25,000 euros. A battery saving of 25% would mean cost savings of 6,259 euros per car. However, even in the production of cars with smaller batteries like the Nissan LEAF, 1,250 euros could be saved by using ISCAD. In addition, because ISCAD operates at low voltages of 48V, costs for high voltage safety measures and maintenance cease. Another important reason for a 48V system is the intrinsic safety in the event of an accident compared to the current high-voltage systems.

ADVANTAGES IN PRODUCTION:
For the production of ISCAD no rare earths are needed. This offers cost advantages and independency from the monopoly market. Moreover, by replacing the copper windings through aluminum bars, the production process of electronic motors, which partly still consisted of manual work, is simplified.

WHAT IS THE MARKET?
A huge market to approach is the automobile market. From 2016 to 2017, the stock of electric cars in Germany increased by 33% to around 34,000 units. The forecasts for e-mobility are promising. The number of electric and hybrid cars sold in 2020 in the US, the EU and China is predicted to be 10 million. For 2025 the number of cars sold is already predicted to be 43 million. However, the ISCAD system is not limited to the automotive market. Especially at sea, a low voltage system is very desirable, i.e., for safety reasons. Therefore, also the boat and yacht industry are markets that should be targeted.
The low-voltage ISCAD-technology can be installed without any risk even by inexperienced people. Because of this advantage, the entire retrofit market is also an important target market. Our main target is the B2B Market. Potential customers are therefore tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers, OEMs but also individuals or workshops in the retrofit area.

Electromobility is an important and necessary step to maintain and improve people's quality of life. Nowadays, however, it is still too expensive. ISCAD can make a significant contribution in making electromobility more affordable in the future. Like this electromobility can be made available to everyone. This goal inspires us to continue working and to put the innovation into reality.
