Problem:
Every object in an environment is subject to air flow and so subject to the aerodynamic forces like drag, lift. Objects should be designed properly to bear these forces and their effects easily by using aerodynamics, streamlining principles.
But tall objects have some limitations:
1. These objects like towers, chimneys cover more surrounding space because of their supports.
2. These objects become imbalanced when one of their support fails.
3. These objects require multiple number of supports.
Solution:
Main parts of design are:
Elastic sheet (suitable modulus of elasticity according to design).
Elastic pillars (integrated in building).
Sliders (movable and fixed as per need).
In the image, an elastic sheet has been mounted on an elastic pillar’s end points via sliders to produce counter-forces or movement in opposite direction to deactivate the magnitude of forces developed by air on the building. The aerodynamic forces will tend to bend the building in the direction of the air flow and forces generated by the sheet at the ends of the pillar where it has been attached via sliders will tend to bend the building in the opposite direction. So all net forces and cyclic vibrations will become zero of building or object.
Same design methodology can be applied to all objects that are subject to air and water flow like towers, sheds, pillars etc.
