Air pollution is a major threat in the ever growing urban lanscapes: here, we propose a crowd monitoring system, where air control is done by eveyone for everybody.

This design provides an effective solution to check air quality and share real-time measurements all over the community. The solution is based on a meteo station to be installed at home, which sends its data to a web based service; data is organized and made accessible through web pages.

The meteo station, apart from the standard measurements such as temperature, humidity, and pressure, will be equipped with the latest generation devices for measuring the presence of contaminants in the air, such as carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), sulphur dioxide (SO2), and hydrogen sulphide (H2S). A wi-fi connection to a local network will be used to send data to the web service.

The web service will collect and organize data, and make it accessible through the internet, via a dedicated web site. With this system, it will be possible to monitor air quality in the neighborhood, to analyze historical charts, and pollution forecasts.

We think that crowd monitoring will highlight the social impact of air pollution in the large cities, and will increase the public awareness of the issues related to air quality.
