PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION
The number of disabled persons with limb loss in India was estimated to be 2,17,83,481 during July to December, 2011. They formed about 1.8 percent of the total population.
There were 1,285,000 persons in the U.S.A living with limb loss in 2009. The prevalence rate in 2009 was 4.9 per 1,000 persons
.INTRODUCTION
The objective of this paper is to design and fabricate an electric three wheeler. This three wheeler is specially designed for the physically challenged – Hands Impaired people. To serve this purpose a field survey will be done which includes physically challenged persons. The design part deals with the selection of an electric hub motor that is suitable to run the vehicle. Then the frame of the vehicle will be designed using commercial modeling software. The design of the vehicle will be in such a way that it will be easily accessed by the physically challenged people. The fabrication of the vehicle will be started immediately once the design process gets completed. The advantage of our vehicle is its compactness and accessibility. The design will aid the above purpose. The fabricated vehicle will be tested under several conditions. This is done to ensure the safety of the vehicle, so that vehicle can be used under any condition.
TOTAL COST OF THE PROJECT:
The cost of the vehicle is Rs.15,970/- which on mass production can be brought down in a large scale. The main advantage with the cost of the vehicle cost is 60% less than the existing vehicles for leg impaired people.
CONCLUSION:
The project involves both design and fabrication of an electric three wheeler for the physically challenged people. To serve this purpose, a field survey has been taken which gave first hand feel of the physically challenged people about their need. Then a conceptual design has been made, known how the vehicle looks on paper. This also gave some insight regarding design and functional parts that are to be assembled. A study has been made to know which electric motor best suits our purpose. A design calculation was done to know the power required for the motor to propel the vehicle.
The conceptual design was refined in order to accommodate some changes that improve the performance of the vehicle. The frame of refined design was subjected to static analysis, to check the loading condition and strength of the material that was selected for fabrication. The design stage was scrutinized to make sure that the vehicle to be fabricated would be safe in all aspects.
After the design process, the fabrication was done. In this, process, the parts and the material required for the fabrication process were procured. The frame of the vehicle was then fabricated and the parts were assembled to complete the vehicle. Thus the three-wheeler for the physically challenged people was fabricated and was tested under server physical conditions. As a result, the three wheelers is ready for use by disabled people.
