The EyeOnRoad System intends to predict the road anomalies accurately and alerts the vehicles. This system introduces a new technique to detect road anomalies (bumps, potholes, cracks, expansion joints, patches, etc) automatically, using sensor fusion technique. This system integrates the road anomaly information with the existing navigation system which forecasts the distance, type & extent of the anomaly along with the recommended speed. The driver is suggested with an alternate route to avoid the road anomalies. With the road anomaly information and traffic density, the accurate travel time can be estimated. This system obtains the live updates (using sensory data) automatically via Cloud- Internet of things. This concept is applicable for multiple platforms, which includes In-Car navigation system and Smartphone?s. This system intends to fill the technology barriers in anomaly detection, which imports intelligence to the navigation system. This system not only provides comfort ride but also increases the life time of the vehicle. The proposed system focuses on detecting the road anomalies using the accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer and GPS sensors embedded on vehicle-Navigation unit/Smartphone and the alerts the driver.

The sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer and GPS) are available in the vehicle, wherein the sensory data are collected and processed to identify the road anomalies. Along with the sensory data, the time and location information sent to cloud for further processing. The data are sent via the wireless communication system using GSM Modem. The server connected via internet to the cloud, processes the fetched data and sends back the required information to the cloud. The server will have a database to store the up-to-date information. An anomalies calculation algorithm executed continuously in server to calculate the number of road hazards upon each request from client. The anomaly information is displayed in the vehicle-Navigation unit/Smartphone.
