INTRODUCTION There is an urgent need to curtail the use of crude oil in any form as India is completely dependent on imported crude for all forms of transportation energy. This results is our country and our people being very poor due to the import of all energy sources like crude oil and coal. There is only one way ahead ie to replace the import of energy sources by substituting solar energy in all forms of transport etc. At present the petrol and diesel powered vehicle use crude oil and produce pollution and heat. It produces greenhouse gases which will result in the world going towards the tipping point of heating cycle from where there may not be any return. This project tries to begin to address the issue.

PROJECT DETAILS The project envisions an installation of solar power of 100 KW on the roof top of the University and then charge the batteries of battery operated motorcycle, battery operated scooter, and battery operated cars. The batteries will be charged free of any payment. The plant will be used to study the solar power production and also the usage towards replacement of petroleum products in the university.

40 km will require about 5.5 KWh which can be supplied by a 1 KW panel for 5 hrs. This power can be supplied by 1 KW panel which will cost about Rs50,000/-. If we take interest and depreciation to be 20 % then the electricity cost will be about Rs 10000/- per annum, which works out to be about Rs 30 /- per day. Normally a 40 KM ride will cost around Rs 300/-.

PROPOSAL The proposal is to install about 10 KW of panels in the open space near the parking lot or on the parking lot and give a charging point to our staff and students who can charge their electric vehicles during the working hours and run their electric cars or electric motorcycles for free. As earlier pointed out they can be charged about Rs 30/- per car and Rs 10/- per motor cycle. This project can get the University green credits and recognition for Campus social cause.

Daily about 10 electric cars and 20 electric scooters or motorcycles can be charged.

The cost of the power plant will be about Rs 5 lacs and it will be of immense worth. By charging Rs 30 per day per car an amount of Rs 100,000/- can be realized in a year and hence it will be paid for in about 5 years. Then for the next 20 years there will be an income of about Rs 100000/- per year for the next 20 years.

EXPENDITURE FOR THE PROJECT.

1. Solar panels of 10 KW capacity = Rs 6 lacs
2. Chargers/ inverters for 10 cars = Rs 1 lacs
3. Protective circuits and fire extinguishers = Rs 1 lacs
Total cost for the project Rs 8 lacs.
