The objective of this project is to provide the effects of using blend of Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO) with diesel in proportion of 40 % by volume, with different mass shares of hydrogen supplementation, on the Performance, Combustion and Emission characteristics of a naturally aspirated, IDI CI engine. The experimental tests were recorded in five loading conditions (i.e., 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%) and at constant engine rpm. The fuel injection pressure was set at 210 bar for all the readings. Hydrogen was supplemented in the injection manifold of the engine using a separate injector at an injection pressure equal to the atmospheric pressure. The quantity of hydrogen supplemented was varied as 0.3gm/min, 0.6gm/min and 0.9gm/min for each load. The sole purpose of supplementing the engine fueling with hydrogen was to boost the combustion process by increasing the temperature so as to decrease the viscosity of the blend which in turn decreases the time period taken in order to atomize and vaporize the fuel inside the combustion chamber. The results were compared against the obtained values when the engine was run on i) pure diesel and ii) the blend without hydrogen supplementation.
