The WAISSI ENGINE
The next generation, opposed piston (“boxer”) internal combustion engine.
PROTOTYPE ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS
- air-cooled
- 2 cylinder
- 4 stroke
- 8 valve
- SOHC (single overhead cam)
= straight shaft replaces the (regular type) crankshaft
= disk + bearing ring replace the (regular type) connecting rod + piston pin
- aligned and opposed cylinders
- stroke = 60 mm
- piston diameter = 85 mm
- displaced volume = 680 cc = 0.68 liter (340 cc per cylinder)
LUBRICATION:
- wet sump; external oil pump (Moroso; belt driven)
- lubrication of main journals and disk bearing under hydrodynamic conditions
- magneto ignition (Vertex)
- cylinders and cylinder heads (Honda TRX 400)
- overhead cam chain driven (Honda TRX 400 chain and sprockets)
- main journal bearings (VW Type I standard (55 mm))
= performance data not yet available
Advantages: no connecting rods therefore slower volumetric expansion above the piston head during the first 90 degrees after TDC with fuel-air mixture explosion in a smaller- and slower expanding space than any engine with connecting rods resulting into a 24% or higher piston force in each cycle; no conrods, therefore fewer friction surfaces, and lower internal friction; no conrods, therefore no secondary forces and simpler engine balancing; in addition, simpler manufacturing/assembly.
The WAISSI engine can replace all internal combustion engines: aerospace (UAVs, light aircraft), automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, and can serve as an auxiliary power source.
The WAISSI ENGINE can be implemented as a 2-stroke and 4-stroke version using any fuel type.
3 US patents received, and one additional pending.
