Sustainable Food Processing

You will be shocked to know that-Globally 1.3 billion tonnes of food are wasted per year due to lack of proper processing.On the other hand, according to the head of the U.N. food agency 18,000 children die every day because of hunger and malnutrition. So, food processing should be emphasized to promote food security and combat hunger and reduce that huge losses. Drying is one of the oldest and easiest method of food processing. But conventional (convective) drying takes longer drying time and food quality of food degrades during drying. Our new drying method, solar microwave drying, which will improve both energy efficiency and product quality in drying. Application of microwave boost up the drying process by driving the moisture out and reducing drying time about 5-7 times. Hot air which obtained by solar will remove the moisture. So this system comprises a synergistic method which improves both energy efficiency and food quality.
