There is a need for fast, efficient, safe travel over the water. To achieve speeds in excess of 100 knots, the craft will have to employ aerodynamic alleviation to rise above the water surface. Introducing the Bayou Skimmer, a twin hull wing-in-ground effect craft with features of a regular boat, yet features of a captured air bubble plus a variable azimuth thrust pod.

To ensure prompt surface clearence, the leading edge of the main lift surface is equipped with airfoils mounted on a rotating spindle. In rotation, the airfoils become high lift Magnus Rotors, but also double duty as forward wing flaps. The rear of the craft is equipped with hydraulic actuated skis that lift the craft appox 6 feet, yet propulsion is maintained from the thrust pod that remains under water. Banked turns are achieved by a combined integrated fly-by-wire control system that monitors all control aspects of both aerodynamic and aquatic forces to maintain control of the craft. Made of lightweight aluminum and fiberglass components, the Bayou Skimmer can service the needs of the many offshore wind farms and/or oil rigs.

Transsport systems of today are either too slow or if they are fast, consume large amounts of fuel. The Bayou Skimmer can carry various loads of passengers and material at greatly reduced cost. This type of craft is not under the jurisdiction of the FAA, and therfore can be used by several industries as a fast ferry, rescue vehicle, combat supply craft, etc.
