“Algae infusion into catalytic convertors of the car’s vehicle exhaust system”
There are millions of vehicles on the road in the world, and each one is a source of air pollution. Especially in large cities, the amount of pollution that all cars produce together is creating big problems to environment which has hazardous affects on human as well as animal life.
Advancements in technology had made people to afford car easily, which is a good thing for comfort. At the same time,increase in usage of vehicles especially cars led to increase in pollution with harmful emissions such as Nitrogen gas (N2), Carbon dioxide (CO2), Water vapor (H2O), Carbon monoxide (CO), Hydrocarbons or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) , Nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2, together called NOx).
As technology in every field is taking new face every day with invention of new things it also led to design of car engines and fuel systems to restrict the harmful emissions. One among these developments is the invention of "catalytic convertor" which converts harmful pollutants into less harmful emissions which comes from car’s engine exhaust system. As the problem of harmful emissions still persists,CO2 which is one of the major constituents of vehicle exhaust system has hazardous effects on environment like Green House effect.
CO2 molecules traps and retains heat. In order to keep the number of heat absorbing molecules down, we need more CO2 eaters on the Earth. One such absorbent of CO2 is algae. Algae produces energy through photosynthesis by combining sunlight, H2O, and CO2. algae has a capability to produce more oxygen than other plants.
I am experimenting with an idea to design a Green exhaust system which involves
->Car vehicle exhaust system
->Catalytic convertors
->ALGAE
The algae rests in water, and produces harvestable energy through photosynthesis by absorbing CO2 and sunlight. The energy can be funneled into catalytic convertor of car’s exhaust system to absorb CO2 that is released during emission and to release Oxygen into atmosphere, also this energy can be stored, which is used to power the car lights at night. The microalgae lamp produces a friendly byproduct, oxygen, while only one of these algae lights is able to suck up 1 ton of CO2 per year. To put that in perspective, one microalgae lamp absorbs as much CO2 in one year as a tree does in its lifetime.
