Silicon from Rice Hulls

The idea is to burn rice hulls in a biomass power plant to produce steam and electricity next to the rice mill where the rice hull is separated and is available in large quantities as agricultural waste.

One then transform the fly ashes (rich in very pure silica) into silica and activated carbon by digestion, filtration, and spray dried precipitation. The silica can be used in various industries including fiber optics telecommunications

The silica is then further purified by ion and cathion resin exchange columns and transformed into silicon by plasma torch under vacuum to create polycristalline silicon for solar panels (6N) and semiconductor electronics (9N).
