The ID Digital Camera is a device that law enforcement can use to automatically ID "persons of interest" in the vicinity by matching the image on their viewfinder to the police database of felons or victims (mug shots)on file.

Most of the high-end digital cameras have face detection features that allow the photographer to automatically adjust the exposure and focus to provide the best face portraits. Now, imagine taking the face detection technology one step further for identifying what law enforcement calls "people of interest." The officer holds a digital camera that has the shape of a speed detector (radar) gun and zooms and scans the area for possible suspects in the vicinity. The camera will be connected to the officer's computer in their car/cruiser. The camera will automatically scan the faces, match them against the police database and then "tag" them. The profile from the camera will "pull up" the subject's information on the officer's computer screen. The advantage of this device allows the officer to can scan faces in a crowd from a distance incognito. It also reduces the human error of subjectively judging whether the image the officer sees matches what the database has on file.
