Improved Tube & Fin Heat Exchanger

In most air-cooled heat exchangers, the construction utilizes a tube, through which the fluid passes, and fins over which the air passes to remove the heat. Some present units use an aluminum tube and an aluminum fin which are bonded together through a high temperature brazing process. The fin or the tube is usually clad with an alloy to produce the bond. This system requires a significant amount of heat as well as some inert gas to maintain a brazing atmosphere to produce the bond.

The conept being submitted produces a tube and fin that is roll formed to produce a serrated fin. This concept eliminates the brazing process and saves considerable energy. The tube ends are processed further to repoduce an adhesive bonded mechanical joint at the head sheet creating a strong, leak free joint.

The fin, being part of the tube material eliminates the contact resistance of the present tube and fin, which should result in improved heat transfer.
