Problem: It is estimated that speed is a factor in 1/3 of fatal vehicle accidents. It is my belief that thousands of lives could be saved every year by encouraging drivers to drive within the posted speed limit. Solution: Vehicles traveling on public road at speeds over or under the posted speed limit would automatically alert other drivers: The vehicle would be equipped with GPS, either OEM or aftermarket. The GPS would also contain a database with the The legal speed limit for the given location which would be compared to the vehicle's actual speed. In the event of an excursion from the legal speed limit, the vehicle's hazard lights would be activated. This would serve to notify both the vehicle\'s driver as well as other drivers on the road. Implementation of the GPS activated hazard lights could be mandated on new vehicles by law and encouraged on existing vehicles through the use of incentives such as a reduced registration fee and rebates on the equipment.
