A high pressure, permanent tube fitting and installation tool has been developed, as well as a serviceable, threaded fitting, to seal high or low pressure fluids and gasses. The installation tool (HFU or Hydraulic Fusing Unit), can generate over 7 tons of output force, with only 50 in-lbs of input torque required. Testing has shown the ability to burst tubing, while maintaining leak free fitting connections. Using a cordless drill for input power, permanent connections can be made up on tubing in 20 seconds, compared to 90 seconds for threaded connections. The small, compact size of the HFU permits tube fitting installation in tight spaces, with a minimal amount of input torque required to complete permanent, leak proof connections, that can be visually inspected for proper make up.
